…HELPING YOU DEFINE YOUR WELLNESS

PRACTICE PILLARS

NUANCE

There are so many opinions out there about what to eat and how to be in a body, I know. We’re inundated with nutrition info on the daily. Sometimes, even the messaging of wellness culture, eating disorder treatment programs, or other well-meaning providers can feel really loud and overwhelming: “ALL FOODS FIT!” or “DIETS DON’T WORK!” or “LOVE YOUR BODY!” Those sentiments are totally true, and I bet that still leaves you feeling lost in another set of ‘shoulds’. I recognize it isn’t that easy - the answer can’t be another new, rigid belief system. We’ll work through the mud that is diet culture, wellness culture, and recovery culture - there are lots of ways through.

COLLABORATION

Do I have two degrees in nutrition? Yes. Do I know a few things about nutrients? Sure. Am I going to give you a prescription for how to live your life? Nope. (Sorry, not sorry - you’ll see, I promise).

I get it — you just want to know what’s best and you want to feel better. This work is more interesting than you might think - there’s no “right” way with eating, and I’m not actually the expert on your life and your needs. Believe it or not, you are. Together —- using our combined wisdom — we’ll find a way of eating and moving that aligns with your values, needs, and wellness.

RESPECT

Respect is a big one. I respect you and your process - always. Zero judgment from me. It may sound daunting, but our relationships to food and our bodies are indefinite - there isn’t a finish line. We each have our own unique body systems, genetics, individual sensory needs, traumas, feelings, values, and experiences. Choosing to honor and respect these differences is a huge piece of the puzzle. I actually like to think about our eating behaviors as really cool ways to understand more about what our bodies are needing, how they’re functioning, and what we’re feeling. Bodies are wild! Bodies are incredible!

EMPOWERMENT

I admire my clients endlessly. Truly - seeking support is already a sign that the strongest parts of you are coming forward. To stay with the process - wow, even better. I am so grateful to witness such authentic evolution, and self-discovery. This isn’t just about nutrients, y’all, this is about removing the blockade that is food and body dissatisfaction, distrust, and self-doubt that prevents us from being who we are meant to be in this world. I am constantly reminded of what magnificence humans are truly capable of in unity and community. You deserve to be witnessed and appreciated for all that you are. I will always be here to remind you of that.

About Carly (she/her)

YOUR DIETITIAN & ALLY ALONG THE WAY

Healing is hard, and you aren’t alone.

My life’s work as a dietitian and nutrition therapist is a direct result of my own comprehensive (and ongoing!) healing process. Finding my voice wouldn’t have been possible without specialized support, without community, and without safety. My own experiences of queerness and neurodivergence have deepened my practice values of safety, autonomy, and authentic connection, to provide trauma-attuned, somatically-guided care for individuals and families. I keep it real: There is no one way in wellness, there is no “normal.” Although it may feel uncertain and VERY messy at times, I promise you are already the expert on you; and I’m here to help in your process of reclamation.

“YOUR BODY IS THE PIECE OF THE UNIVERSE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN”

-GENEEN ROTH

The notion of knowing, honoring, and nourishing your body may be far from familiar; but that doesn’t mean it isn’t attainable. Our bodies arrive into the world ready to trust and receive care. As we grow and age, it’s all too easy to lose sight of our internal wisdom, and we come to adopt external suggestion and pressure to influence our patterns of eating. Our bodies learn to adapt to stress in innovative ways; sometimes at high cost. We must learn to settle back into our bodies, as they are destined to be.

Translated into practice: A movement toward rediscovering a relationship to food and body that is connected, gentle, flexible, balanced, varied, exciting, fun, permissive, trusted and nourishing.

Critical bonus: We’ll also spend plenty of time disbanding diet culture, developing new language and narratives, and cultivating body trust & respect.

How: As a dietitian, I like to reference a variety of approaches and other therapeutic modalities as we explore relationships to food and body. These are by no means a replacement for therapy, or supports provided by those disciplines. That said, some of my favorite lenses include: SE (Somatic Experiencing), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and DIRFloortime.
